Be a little more mindful and keep it green no matter what the occasion is!
If everyone were mindful of the impact holiday parties have on the planet and led a more sustainable lifestyle, the world would be a much better place to live in.
There is no way you can’t reduce your waste and be easy on the planet while you are celebrating. Green celebrations are slowly becoming ‘cool’ as more people are gaining awareness about this issue. Through social media platforms, influencers are inspiring people to host sustainable, eco-conscious parties by posting pictures and videos of different tips and tricks to manage waste while celebrating.
There used to be a misconception that sustainable parties cannot be entertaining. But as more people started celebrating in sustainable ways and incorporated entertaining, fun ideas in their eco-friendly parties, eco-friendly events became a trend. You can host an amazingly entertaining and exceptionally joyous party without damaging the environment.
Plan with an Eco-Conscious Mindset
‘Green living’ and ‘green celebrations’ are a state of mind. You don’t just involve a thing or two eco-friendly in your party. You can plan out the whole event, keeping in mind the ‘green celebration’ perspective.
Write everything down on a paper and see how your party will proceed from start to end. Then look for anything that goes against your goal of celebrating a sustainable party. If you find one, try looking for an alternative to it, and in that way, you will be able to have an entire event green.
The first thing you should do is plan to send the invitations via email. Some websites allow you to create your invitations just the way you want. You can add text to add that sentimental effect of handwritten invitations. Also, when you send the invitation via email, make them a call to make sure they received the invitation.
Plan on Decorations
Next off, plan on eco-friendly decorations. Decorations are the real culprit when it comes to generating waste. So, make sure your decorations do not hurt the planet because there is no reason they need to be imprudent.
Reuse Decorations
Reusing decorations from your previous party or creating your decorations with only the items you already have is a great way to reduce waste. For instance, you can make a table centerpiece using dried or fresh flowers placed in an old bottle. As an additional bonus, you will save a lot of money.
Make DIY Decor
Another great way to reduce waste while decorating the event is by making your DIY decorations with sustainable items only.
For instance, if it’s somebody’s birthday, you can make a photo garland with their pictures, along with the dates those pictures were taken. It will make them realize how far they have come, and they’ll get to relive all the beautiful moments of their life. You can also write a little something for them on circular chart papers attached to the pictures using a string.
Avoid Glitter
Try avoiding glitter and not using it while decorating because it has proved to be very toxic for the environment in the longer run.
Get Second-Hand Decor
It is always better to get second-hand decorations from a thrift store, use them, and once you are done reusing them, of course, resell them. There are so many stores that sell and buy cheap second-hand decorations.
Plan on Safe Food
Your eco-friendly party food can not be sustainable. You must find ways to make it healthier - and environment-friendly. Serve your guests home-cooked food, including healthy options that are safe to be consumed by anyone. Prefer making finger food items, so the food does not get wasted.
Get Biodegradable Dinnerware
Your sustainable food must be served in eco-friendly trays and plates. The amount of relief you and the planet will get if you use eco disposable plates and eco-friendly flatware is a lot. They will get composted on their own in a month or so, and you will get away with the drill of washing, drying, storing, and keeping the dishes after the event.
You can serve healthy fruit salads in our compostable eco bowls. We have an entire range of eco-friendly items that help you throw sustainable parties without having to damage the ecosystem. You can find them all here.
Drinks and Beverages
Fill up reusable carafes with homemade drinks and beverages, like a mint margarita, pina colada, sangria, peach juice, and strawberry limeade. If you want to use disposable carafes and cups, try getting the aluminum ones because they are 100% recyclable. You can get the most elegant disposable aluminum cups that are recyclable from The Kaya Collections.
Waste Free Games and Activities
Get kids involved and make your party fun and entertaining for everyone. Play recycling games like a scavenger hunt where the kids have to go find recyclable items in the party (the one with the highest number of items wins) or a water race where two teams will have a glass filled with water, and they will have to run from the start line to finish line without spilling it.
Eco-Friendly Gifts and Favors
We will be better off if we bring more people into our mission towards making the world greener and a safer place to live in. Encourage your guests to think creatively and find ways to give back to the community.
Make sustainable goodie bags for your guests and fill them with seed packets (not wrapped in plastic, of course) or eco scrunchies and scarves.
Repurpose Leftovers
Having leftovers in your refrigerator after the party is so bad. I mean, you wouldn’t want to eat all of that on your own. You can either put them in containers and freeze them to use maybe a week later. Or you can reinvent them by making new meals out of them.
Got leftover vegetables? Make veggie soup. If you have leftover bones, make a bone broth. French toast or bread crumbs can be made with leftover bread slices. Banana bread can be made with leftover bananas slowly turning brown.
